## Abstract We present experiments on two‐photon excitation of ^87^Rb atoms to Rydberg states. For this purpose, two continuous‐wave (cw)‐laser systems for both 780 nm and 480 nm have been set up. These systems are optimized to a small linewidth (well below 1 MHz) to get both an efficient excitatio

The electric dipole moment of the X 2,Y+ state of Bal was measured usmg the molecular-beam laser-microwave double-resonance techmque. From the analysis of the sphtting and shift of rotational transrtions in an electric held. the dtpole moment of the vibrattonal ground state was determined as u = 5.9
