✦ Synopsis
High performance thin-layer chromatography on channeled, preadsorbent silica gel plates using a petroleum ether-diethyl ether-glacial acetic acid ((80: 20: 2)) mobile phase was used to study the neutral lipid composition in extracts from whole bodies of the medically important snail Biomphalaria glabrata. Snails were fed either hen's egg yolk supplemented with a single feeding of lettuce ( (Y-L) diet), or lettuce supplemented with Tetramin fish food (L-T diet). Differences in the lipid profiles between the snails fed these two diets were apparent, with the triacylglycerol fraction of the snails fed the Y-L diet being significantly higher (Student's (t) test, (P<0.01) ) than in snails fed the L-T diet.
