โฆ Synopsis
This application was developed by AnOesey ~.=inlum after the new guidelines were brought in by Her Majesty's lmpectorate of Pollution (HMIP) who controls and monitors environmental standards.
To comply with the reg-I~ons, Anglesey Alumin/um was required to develop a gas seal to stem the escape of the fluoride gas, a bi-product of aluminium manufacturlog from the induction heated pot as stated by HMIP.
The chosen material needed to be robust with certain other prerequisites; chemical resistance to attack from fluoride gases, resistance to a thermal shock in the range of 350ยฐC, high mechanical strength so that the gas seal and heat shield can be held in place by means of a compeession spring and good machinabllity to avoid chipping and thus entry of foreign bodies into the induction heated pot.
After trials with a selection of materials, Tenmat's H61 non-ashestm Slndanyo was found to be the most suitable materl~ for this specific application. It s/gniflcandy reduced the emission rate of fluoflde gas from the pot and had the required mechanical and thermal properties.
