โœฆ Synopsis

A procedure for quantitation of tryptophan in feedstuffs is described. It is based on barytic hydrolysis of material at 125ยฐC for 16 h, acidification of hydrolysate to pH 3 with HCl, highperformance liquid chromatography on Nova Pak C,s (Waters Assoc.), and spectrophotometric determination of tryptophan at 280 nm. The recovery of tryptophan from lysozyme added to samples ranges from 98.7 to 100%.

Tryptophan metabolites with an indole ring are enriched by adsorption either as an ion pair with a trichloroacetic acid anion or as its undissociated form on porous polystyrene polymer (TSK 2000 S) from strongly acidic piasma deproteinized by trichloroacetic acid, and after washing with water, they

Quantitation of desmosine and isodesmosine, the major crosslinks in elastin, has been of interest because of their uniqueness and use as markers of that protein. Accurate measurement of these crosslinks may allow determination of elastin degradation in vivo and elastin content in tissues, obviating
