✦ Synopsis
The experimental data for elastic scattering of protons on complex nuclei will be reviewed, especially at the energies at which there are polarization experiments. The experimental results will be compared with the calculations made with the complex potential well plus spin-orbit interaction model and some justification of this model on the basis of the nucleon scattering will be reported. A description will be given of the present state of np and pp scattering problems especially at 300 MeV where there are most complete data. In particular the polarization experiments for pp in double and triple scattering add enough information to render the problem of the phase shift determination overdetermined in principle. However, the experimental errors are such that several sets of phase shifts are possible. The importance of the junction of the 300 MeV data with the data at lower energies is emphasized.
The relation of the solution of the pp problem to the np problem will also be discussed.
