This study examined the effects of external and internalized heterosexism and sexism on lesbians' mental health. Hierarchical regression analysis, controlling for education and income, identified recent sexual-orientation-based hate crime victimization, recent sexist events, internalized heterosexism, and the interaction of recent sexualorientation-based hate crime victimization and recent sexist events as significant predictors of psychological distress, accounting for 31% of the variance.
