The reaction of [3-oxonitrones --imidazoline derivatives --with hydroxylamine, phenylhydrazine, and semicarbazide takes place at the carbonyl group with retention of the nitrone group. Stable nitroxyl radicals --spiroimidazoisoxazole derivatives -are formed in the oxidation of fJhydroximinonitrones.
