Abstract
The synthesis is described of the monoethyl ester chlorides of (S)‐ and (R)‐methyl benzyloxy malonic acid which are intermediates in the synthesis of ergotamine. Their absolute configuration was determined by linking the levorotatory antipode with S‐(+)‐citramalic acid.
