โฆ Synopsis
Caroline Bingley and Elizabeth Bennet are raised in the wrong "I am not a Bingley but a Bennet. It seems that before I could walk on my own, I was already causing mischief, and after playing in some mud, I found my way to the wrong carriage. I have lived as an imposter ever since." Before anyone has discovered the mistake Fitzwilliam Darcy insults his friend's young "School surely will tame her- No, Charles, really not tame, that was a poor word choice. She is indeed a good sort of girl, very clever, and might even be pretty one day. I should have said polish." As an adult she is not enthusiastic about spending several weeks in his "Caroline was confident she could be pleasant for three days. If that proved difficult, she would avoid him. The idea of concealing herself behind a column to prevent an accidental encounter, made her smile as she readied for bed." In Hertfordshire the Bennet household refresh their wardrobes as they anticipate the Bingleys return to "Jane would not have supposed that one of her sisters willfully intended to dominate the other, but had seen Mary defer often enough to think of giving Elizabeth a hint. . . Jane planned her next hint as carefully as she planned the pattern on her ribbon. Only one scheme was destined for success, and it looked lovely on the edging of her mossy green spencer." Darcy is pressed into dancing with 'Elizabeth Bennet,' who happily complies. He seeks out 'Caroline Bingley': "She looked at him with the question written on her countenance; his eyes rolled toward Miss Elizabeth who had approached the piano to join her sister. 'Was she very unpleasant? I was pleased that you asked her.' 'Were you? I am sorry to acknowledge that I did not' 'Surely she-' 'No. Only one woman has ever done that.' Her lips pursed to resist a smile as she looked away. He continued, 'Sir William rather forced my hand.' 'And you don't wish to encourage her?' His only response was on his face." 'Elizabeth Bennet's' sister falls ill at Netherfield and she stays to nurse her. After dinner she remains in the drawing room : "Mr. Darcy startled them all by continuing, 'That is a fine list but it does not comprise all. A truly accomplished woman will also have a well informed mind.' Miss Elizabeth blushed, remembering last night's dance; she and Mr. Darcy had spoken of books. He must intend this as a compliment to herself." Wickham requests the Kympton living after refusing it years earlier : "Wickham had always known exactly how to discompose him; Darcy gave a slight exasperated shake of his head, they were no longer schoolboys. He smiled a long-suffering smile and continued. 'If sermon making is indeed what you ought to do, you are an educated man, I am sure you can be ordained and find a living in another parish.' He did not know how effective this bit of advice would prove,"
Darcy is Smitten. Caroline, believing she is Miss Elizabeth, is determined. George Wickham plots revenge. Lady Catherine is incorrigible. Anne is odd. And the Colonel is helpful. I ask you to forgive its imperfections and laugh with me as we follow a different love story for Our Dear Couple. It is about 90,000 sometimes-obnoxiously-pretentious words long. This sweet, regency romance is almost squeaky clean, but I think it is great fun.
