A Beautiful Lady With A Problem, A Horse Trainer With Keen Insight, And A Marriage To A Man With A Violent Temperβ¦
Irmengarde de Warren is trapped in a loveless marriage to a cruel man who is of English descent. His complete hatred of all Scots causes him to be especially brutal towards his wife. Feeling the emotional turmoil of her rider while they are on a ride with Clovis, Irmengarde's horse bolts...and nearly tramples a man walking on the path, who happens to be a horse trainer looking for work.
The quick-witted baroness suggests to hire the horse trainer to retrain her horse, which Clovis agrees to, but only on a trial basis. With her horse temporarily protected, Irmengarde must turn her attentions towards her own safety. After a brutal attack by her husband, she decides she must leave before he can kill her. However, don't always go according to plan.
A Gentle Protector
When Brogan Covell left the family farm to find work as a horse trainer, he did not expect it to find him quite so suddenly. Quickly realizing the source of the emotional distress of both the beautiful woman and her gentle mare, he accepts the task of βretrainingβ the horse, if only to save it's life. It doesn't take long for Brogan to ascertain that the horse is not the only thing in need of his protection, and vows to do all he can to protect Irmengarde as well, since he has fallen in love with the strong Lady Irmengarde, despite the fact that she is married already.
When Irmengarde makes the decision to flee her husband, Brogan makes a quick decision to see her to safety, even at the expense of his life. In a bold move, Brogan rescues Irmengarde from Clovis after he captures her on the path to the abbey. However, Clovis does not let her go very easily, and Brogan must challenge him to a sword fight to free her, where he not only injures Clovis greatly, but also gets injured himself.
A Love That Endures
Now that Brogan and Irmengarde have made it safely to Edinburgh and the Bishop, they have one last test of their love: to see if her marriage to Clovis will be annulled. After receiving the annulment, Brogan wastes no time in making Irmengarde his for life. For a woman married to a brutal Baron and a gentle stable hand well below her station, love β and life β will not be easy and danger lurks around every bend!
