The Doiras dam was pumped out over the course of two weeks in order to access a turbine. Most of the fish were unable to get to safety in time, and rescue efforts were hampered by the location's inaccessibility. The government says it will to bill the electric company for the replacement of the fish. USA EverClear Environmental Technologies says that a revolutionary purification system could mean safer drinking water for everyone. Its process uses an electro-catalytic process with high levels of oxygen to kill dangerous bacteria. Since oxygen is a natural and safe bactericide, it means chemicals like chlorine need no longer be added to the water. The technology resembles that used for decades to apply metal coatings. Yugarlvia The United Nations says living conditions in Kosovo have become unremittingly grim, due to contaminated water supplies, damaged health facilities and food shortages. Initial hopes that the humanitarian situation might not have been as bad as feared, have proved unfounded. Reports say that 40% of the water supply is substandard, and fouled by unsavoury materials including animal and human corpses.
