โœฆ Synopsis

Heat transfer coefficient between an electrically heated 19 0 mm diameter vertical probe and slurries of glass beads of different sizes (50.0, 117.6 and 143.3 I~m) and concentrations (108-312 kg/m 3) is determined in a 10.8 cm diameter bubble column as a function of superficial air velocity (0.103-0.353 m/s) Heat transfer coefficient values are found to be independent of particle size in the slurry, but are dependent on the air velocity and rather weakly on the solids concentration. To characterize the three-phase system, the average values of the holdups for the gas, solid and liquid phases are also measured as a function of air velocity and solids concentration in the slurry.

Our recently reported gas holdup and heat transfer data for the airwater-magnetite system extending over a range of air velocities, particle diameters, and slurry concentrations have been correlated. The gas holdup correlation is based on the drift-flux theory, while the heat transfer correlation is
