✦ Synopsis

The heat capacity of solid C60 prepared with different solvents, benzene and toluene, has been measured by adiabatic calorimetry between 10 and 300 K, paying attention to the effects of the solvent remaining in the sample. The heat capacity anomaly caused by the orientational phase transition is strongly influenced by the solvent, which is not removed from the sample under vacuum even at elevated temperatures. The thermodynamic quantities related to the phase transition and the enthalpy of formation of the orientational defect are estimated.
