✦ Synopsis

The heat capacities of La1-xCaxCrO3, x=0.10, 0.20, and 0.30, were measured with an adiabatic shield calorimeter at temperatures from 298.15 K to around 1000 K. Thermodynamic functions have been derived and Cp,m, D T 298.15 K H°m, and D T 298.15 K S°m were found to be nearly independent of the degree of CaCrO3 substitution. The average values of Cp,m, D T 298.15 K H°m, and D T 298.15 K S°m at T = 900 K for La1-xCaxCrO3, x = (0.00, 0.10, 0.20, and 0.30), are 127.96 J•K -1 •mol -1 , 73381 J•mol -1 , and 132.72 J•K -1 •mol -1 . A l-type contribution to the heat capacity which reflects a phase transition from an orthorhombic to a rhombohedral structure was observed for all compositions. The temperature, the enthalpy, and the entropy of the transition are 568 K,
