โœฆ Synopsis

An experimental investigation was made into the mechanism of heat and mass transfer during liquid film evaporation in heated gas flow in a contact apparatus with a packing made of porous elements placed close to each other in a helical line. The experiments were carried out over a wide range of geometric and mode parameters, which permitted the general characteristics needed to calculate the heat and mass transfer processes to be obtained. A comparison of experimental data with the numerical solution of the process mathematical model showed good agreement. The hydrodynamical characteristics of gas and liquid flow in the apparatus were investigated also, and critical values of gas velocity depending upon the density of sprinkling were obtained. When these values are exceeded, the apparatus becomes flooded. A method is suggested to increase the maximum permissible velocities of media motion (by 1.5-2 times) by gas flow distribution over separate channels at the apparatus inlet, which in turn increases the efficiency of the contact apparatus.

In this experimental investigation, a packed bed column suitable for 5-ton hybrid cooling system has been designed to study the absorption of water vapour from moist air by contact with aqueous solutions of calcium chloride. The packing material used in the study was two elements of the BXPEP struct
