β¦ Synopsis
Vacuum sealed electric leads are used in practically every apparatus designed for low temperature experiments. Glued leads 2 in which the glue acts as sealing and dielectric have well-known advantages of simplicity in construction, the possibility of using wires of any metals, mechanical strength, and other merits. Anashkin I proposed the use of silicone epoxy VT-200 glue for this purpose. This glue does not shrink on drying out and polymerization, and does not crack on deep cooling, so it could be used in the preparation of multicore sealed leads.
A method of constructing multicore leads which is simple, compact, and convenient in use is described below. The construction is similar to a vacuum tube pinch and consists of a thin walled tube of a low heat conductivity alloy, through the flattened end of which a flat bundle of wires the author is with the Institute of Atomic Energy, Moscow, USSR. A compact 3He cryostat with a charcoal adsorption pump was constructed for use in thermometry. The cryostat fits into a liquid helium storage tank with a 51 mm neck. The 3He gas is held in a cylinder on top of the cryostat. The sample volume of the cryostat is 30 mm in diameter and 70 mm in height.
