✦ Synopsis
Introduction
Here I would like to pay tribute to Harold F. Falls, now living in retirement in North Fort Myers, Florida, but for almost half a century undisputed master of ophthalmology genetics and one of the founders of North American medical genetics. This note accompanies "Scattered Memorabilia," Harold Falls' Living History Biography in this issue of the American Journal of Medical Genetics. However, his exceptional humility caused Dr. Falls to understate the role and the importance of the role he played in the early years of American medical genetics and the recognition he has received for his investigational, didactic, and service work in ophthalmology and eye genetics.
As is true of so many persons of great character and professional distinction, hardship was a powerful incentive during Falls' childhood and years of study, and adaptability must have served him to exceptional advantage in advancing so rapidly under such unusual beginning circumstances.
