✦ Synopsis
We report micro and macro hardness measurements made on a polycrystalline sample of YBa,Cu3()= ,. Microhardness indentations in the interior of grams revealed that this material has, in many cases, enough ductility to allow the formation of cleat" diamond marks. The distribution of the measurements made on many individual grains of a polished surface shows indications of an anisotropic hardness response. The macrohardness indentiations, which covered many grains, induced intergranular fracture.
