shown in Figure . The seal is self-closing, so that in case of a buffer gas failure the seal is hydraulically closed on the product side. The preferred design ensures that the counterfaees do not change their position in case of a pressure reversal. Antimony impregnated carbon/silicon carbide or silicon carbide/silicon carbide were used as sliding materials of 25 bar maximum, maximum temperatures of 260ยฐC and sliding velocities of up to 25 m/s.
The other variant (Figure ) is equally a gas buffered mechanical seal which is particularly suitable for media containing solids. On the atmosphere side, the previously described standard gas seal to DIN has been provided. On the product side there is a double pressure relieved and gas-lubricated seal with internal gas grooves. Under operating conditions, the sealing gap on the product side is supplied with gas, so as to prevent an ingress of the product into the gap. This seal can be operated at pressure of up to 25 bar, temperatures of up to 220ยฐC and sliding velocities of up to 20 m/s.
