The composition and metabolism of connective tissues are currently very active areas of research. Numerous reviews of specialized areas have appeared, but a brief, general summary of the current stage of knowledge in this important field is always useful. To some extent, Dr. Hall's book fills this

✦ Synopsis
It matters little today what branch of medicine or surgery the postgraduate student proposes to study; pathology will always loom large because it forms one of the basic structures of all medical knowledge.
Pathology, and especially surgical pathology, is a difficult subject unless the reader is well versed in general basic pathology. This was one of the reasons why the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons decided nearly twenty years ago to include general pathology in its Primary Fellowship Examination. I n the Final Fellowship Examination the candidate has to undergo two viva voce examinations in surgical pathology.
It can be readily understood that there is a definite need for a textbook on general pathology which will help all those who require extra knowledge of this subject.
The authors have performed their task with great skill and originality. They have produced a comprehensive book which is beautifully and profusely illustrated. It is lucid and very readable and the layout is attractive.
T o the general surgeon it will prove a very useful reference volume, but to the postgraduate student, studying for higher examinations, it is a 'must' because it will be his guide, philosopher, and friend in all things dealing with pathology.
An excellent production.
