โœฆ Synopsis

The efficient production of the carbenes CCla, CBrr and CBtCl in a supersonic free jet using a hot nozzle has been demonstrated.

A variety of bromine-and chlorine-containing halomethanes have been investigated and characterized aa precursors. The observed chemistry appears to be in general agreement with expectations baaed on the known unimolccular decomposition mechanisms. Laser-induced fluorescence. excitation spectra have been observed for all three species. For the latter two csrbenes, the medium resolution spectra provide detail and information not previously available.

High-resolution Fourier transform spectra of the laser-induced fluorescence of copper dichloride produced in a free-jet expansion are presented. The supersonic molecular beam produces rotational cooling and a nearly collisionfree environment. Dispersed fluorescence spectra are found to be free of th
