The extended article on Nitro-Glycerine, and the explosive compounds into the composition of which it enters, and the applications of the same, may be rem~trked upon as evidencing the progress of chemical discovery since the publication of the work ~f Dr. Muspratt, which does not mention the subject.

The "New Encyclopedia" will fill a wide gap of twenty years with those having Dr. Muspratt's work, and who desire to bring the subject of chemistry in its application to the arts and manufactures down to the present time.
