β¦ Synopsis
The augmented histamine test has been discussed with regard to its value in diagnosis, in assessing prognosis after gastric operations, and its role in the management of post-gastric surgery disorders. Further modifications have been made to the medical vagotomy test, but insufficient improvement has been obtained to support the routine clinical use of such a test in the selection of duodenal ulcer patients for a particular type of operation. There are still problems in the interpretation of responses to the insulin test, and it seems likely that the various grades of small and delayed response represent different degrees of completeness of vagotomy.
