โœฆ Synopsis


Guidelines for approval of professional staff for privileges in the cardiac catheterization laboratory were formulated by the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions and published in 1984 [l]. Since that time in view of increasing pressure from those seeking approval for cardiac catheterization laboratory privileges as well as more prevalent peer review evaluations, further definition of guidelines has been sought by legislative bodies, accrediting agencies, medical societies and hospital medical boards. In response. the Laboratory Performance Standards Committee of the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions has reconsidered these guidelines and has made the following recommendations. These comments apply only to diagnostic catheterization procedures. Interventional procedures have been addressed separately [2]. The guidelines for privileges to perform diagnostic procedures as set forth in 1984 were reaffirmed and are reproduced below.
