British Energy has made the internal company guidance document that is used for elastomer seal specification and procurement available to external organizations.

As the company responsible for the operation of nuclear generating plant in the UK, the firm has invested considerable resources investigating the performance of elastomer materials and refining the internal company material specifications for a range of materials. These include fluorocarbon, silicone, nitrile and EPDM. Although the applications are obviously those relevant to the operation of CO 2 -cooled nuclear plant, there is a lot of background information on the long-term performance of these materials in relevant media, and detailed procurement and specification data that could be beneficial to other users who require a well controlled specification for procurement of these materials.
