✍ Jiun Haw Chu; O. Voskoboynikov; C.P. Lee 📂 Article 📅 2005 🏛 Elsevier Science 🌐 English ⚖ 140 KB

In this work we demonstrate an interesting opportunity to decrease drastically the group velocity of light in two-dimensional photonic crystals constructed form materials with large dielectric constant without dispersion (3 d w100). The group velocity of light in the crystals can be lowered up to 10

Slow wave phenomena in photonic crystals
✍ A. Figotin; I. Vitebskiy 📂 Article 📅 2011 🏛 John Wiley and Sons 🌐 English ⚖ 697 KB

## Abstract Slow light in photonic crystals and other periodic structures is associated with stationary points of the photonic dispersion relation, where the group velocity of light vanishes. It is shown that in certain cases, the vanishing group velocity is accompanied by the so‐called frozen mode

## Abstract Optical amplification is demonstrated in a slab photonic crystal waveguide (PCW). Nonlinear dispersive gain FDTD and traveling‐wave rate equation method (TWRE) are used to design a photonic crystal semiconductor optical amplifier (PC‐SOA). Optical amplification based on slow light of PC
