An elastic analysis with a plastic zone modelled using the Dugdale approach is done to determine the crack opening displacement and to plot a failure assessment diagram, for short radial cracks emanating from a circular hole in an infinite sheet.

β¦ Synopsis
A B S T R A C T Stress-intensity factors, Kt and Kib are obtained for a point loaded crack emanating from a circular hole in an infinite plate. A series approach and the Muskhelishvili formulation in the two-dimensional theory of elasticity are used to derive the solution. The applicability of the solution is demonstrated by using it as a Green's function to obtain Kt and KH in the case of (1) biaxial tension of an infinite plate and (2) bending of a wide strip.

The stress intensity factors of two cracks emanating from a hole in a finite plate is analysed by the Muskhelishviii formulation and boundary collocation method. For Mode I case, the present results compared very favorably with the existing solutions. For the mixed mode problems of inclined cracks,
