Abstract

The real‐time distribution of alert messages from satellites that detect gamma‐ray bursts are of key importance to neutrino telescopes. We describe how the distribution network of these alert messages is used by the ANTARES neutrino telescope, and the resulting increase in detection efficiency for neutrinos from gamma‐ray bursts. In the Mediterranean Sea the ANTARES telescope is operating since 2006. Gamma-ray bursts (GRB) are powerful and highly variable sources of gamma rays that indicate the existence of cosmic particle accelerators. Under the assumption of hadronic acceleration in the jet, the expected neutrino energy spectrum is derived according to the intrinsic fireball model parameters a
