A theoretical model is suggested which describes the combined effects of grain boundary (GB) sliding and diffusion on strain hardening and ductility of nanocrystalline materials (NCMs). Within the model, GB sliding creates disclination dipoles near triple junctions, inducing high elastic stresses an
