โฆ Synopsis
The Editors and the Publisher have the sad duty to announce the death of Professor Graham F. Carey. Graham passed away on 16 September 2011. They extend their sympathy to Kira, his wife, and to all of his family.
I first met Graham at a SPE conference in the early eighties -I believe it was in Dallas, TX, USA. I was attending the conference for two reasons, first to present a paper but second, and most importantly, to meet Graham in person.
That year, John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. was to launch a new journal and I was on the look-out for an American editor to help me in this venture. Graham soon corrected me by stating that he was an Australian, living in the United States! However, that made little difference as I quickly appreciated that he had much to offer in the partnership and that we could work together in harmony.
It proved to be a very wise choice, as we collaborated on the journal for almost 25 years and in all that time never a cross word or disagreement between us. He and his family were to spend many happy visits to Swansea and we grew to be very good friends as well as working colleagues. Regrettably, I never accepted his many invitations to visit Austin, despite being advised there were some very good golf courses in the vicinity! I always looked forward to our regular meetings regarding journal affairs. Graham was always a delight to be with and we invariably had a good time in each other's company while, at the same time, putting the 'world to rights'. I shall miss him a great deal and the world is a much poorer place for his untimely passing. In conclusion, I would just like to say that it was a great privilege to have known him and he will live in my memory for a long time.
