β¦ Synopsis
Grafting of poly(c/s-l,4-isoprene) with methyl vinyl ketone has been studied using benzoyl peroxide as initiator. Graft copolymers were isolated from homopolymers by selective solvent extraction using a Soxhlet apparatus. The effects of reaction conditions on the graft yields were investigated. Kinetic study of the graft copolymerization reactions showed that the reactions followed the conventional kinetic behaviour of free radical polymerization. The kinetic orders of the grafting with respect to initiator and monomer were 0.5 and 1.0, respectively. The overall activation energy for the graft copolymcrization was 24.9 k J/tool.
