Synopsis
Graft copolymers of acrylonitrilc, methyl metliacrylate and vinyl acetate on blcached holocellulose were obtained by the use of ceric ions. The ceric ion concentration, a t which maximum graft levels were attained, depends on the type of monomer. The dependence of the extent of graft copolytncr formation on the monomer type is explained in terms of the difference in the effective concentration of the monomers a t the cellulose-water interface.
