โœฆ Synopsis

Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate was performed on plantain pulp modified with allyl chloride (0.22 allyl chloride moiety per anhydroglucose unit) in aqueous isopropanol at 29ยฐC using ceric ion as initiator. Isopropanol reduced the level of grafting (except at relatively high concentrations of isopropanol), molecular weight of the grafted polymer chain and the frequency of grafting. The dependence on isopropanol concentration of the molecular weight of grafted polymer suggests that termination during graft copolymerization may occur by reaction of isopropanol with growing graft polymer chains.

Graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) on oxycellulose modified with a polyamine [diethylene triamine (DETA)] was studied in a limited aqueous system under phctoactivation in visible light using K2S208 as the initiator. No polymerization was observed in the dark or in presence of light
