## Chiral intermediates plants for BASF BASF is operating three plants for making chiral intermediates to meet rising demand from life science customers. The new plants reflect the advancement in the firm's proprietary technology and provide solutions to the limitations of previous plants in use.
The process will use a gasification technique to transform non-food biobased materials, including corn leaves or wood waste, into synthesis gas, which will be converted into a mixture of alcohols, such as ethanol, using a mixed alcohols catalyst from Dow. The partnership will work mainly on enhancin
longer economically viable. The employees affected by the closure will be redeployed to other operations at the Niederkassel site (particularly alcoholates production for biodiesel catalysts).
