✦ Synopsis

O desaparecimento da pequena Amanda McCready chocou os habitantes de Boston, que se mobilizaram para ajudar dezenas de policiais a encontrar pistas do paradeiro da criança. A mídia faz sua parte, divulgando boletins e repetidos apelos à população. Procurados pela tia de Amanda, os detetives Patrick Kenzie e Angela Gennaro, já com certa fama na cidade, julgam não ter muito a colaborar. Seriam, afinal, apenas mais duas pessoas entre as centenas em busca da menina. No entanto, a dupla acaba aceitando o caso, pois, segundo o próprio Kenzie, é intolerável aceitar as palavras ’desaparecida’ e ’quatro anos de idade’ na mesma frase. A investigação revela uma trama ainda mais complexa do que eles poderiam imaginar; não se trata de um caso simples, mas de um crime que envolve traficantes e outros bandidos da pior espécie. Auxiliados por dois policiais da Brigada de Proteção às Crianças, os investigadores lutam contra o tempo para encontrar Amanda com vida.
