✦ Synopsis


Two groups of glycolipids have been isolated from a strain of Nocardia caviae and their structures have been determined. These glycolipids are trehalose 6-mononocardonaycolates and trehalose 6,6'-dinocardomycolatcs (cord-factors). In the trehalose monoesters mono and diunsaturated nocardomycolic acids with 52 to 58 carbon atoms have been found while in the trehalose diesters only diunsaturated nocardomycolic acids with 54, 56 and 58 carbon atoms have been found. These glycolipids arc the first cord-factors with true nocardomycolic acids isolated from Nocardiae.
