Glutamate is purported to be the most important transmitter for normal brain function. Nearly all excitatory neurons in the central nervous system are glutamatergic, and it is estimated that over half of all brain synapses release this agent. In this book, the authors present current research in the study of the functions, regulation and disorders related to glutamate.
