## Abstract In amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) non‐neuronal cells play key roles in disease etiology and loss of motoneurons via noncell‐autonomous mechanisms. Reactive astrogliosis and dysfunctional transporters for L‐glutamate [excitatory amino acid transporters, (EAATs)] are hallmarks of ALS
