✦ Synopsis

Abstract

We present the sedimentation of an ideal suspension in a continuous thickener as an initial value problem and study the transient states by constructing the corresponding global weak solutions. Finally, we obtain a way to control the operation of the thickener.

## Abstract In this paper, we study a simplified system for the flow of nematic liquid crystals in a bounded domain in the three‐dimensional space. In this paper, we are concerned with a simplified hydrodynamic equation, proposed by Ericksen and Leslie, modeling the flow of nematic liquid crystals. For a bounded domain in R 3 , under the assumption that initial density belongs to L c (X), c > 3 2 , we show the global existence of weak solutions
