Global Warming Issue Could Warm LDCs' Markets
y recent commentary about the 1999 out-M look for LDCs suggested that the global warming problem presented a potentially extraordinary market growth opportunity for the U.S. natural gas industry. I remain convinced that increased natural gas consumption, primarily to replace coal as a power plant fuel, will likely happen in the next five to ten years, because I would expect U.S. energy policy during that time to be at least somewhat responsive to the climate change problem. However, I am also persuaded that the global warming/ greenhouse gas issue has some unique attributes that deserve a closer look as a factor having significant influence on U.S. natural gas/ energy policymaking in the near future.
