Abstract

World‐volume actions for multiple M2 and D2 branes are constructed by taking the limit of 2 + 1 dimensional gauged supergravities to globally supersymmetric 𝒩 = 8 theories on flat space. The embedding tensor formalism adopted for the classification of gauged supergravities is thereby shown to provide a universal description of all known models, including conformal and non‐conformal theories as well as massive deformations thereof.
