โฆ Synopsis
The success of GINO-F, and the practical experience of the many GINO-F users, have led to the Computer-Aided Design Centre developing a package called G INO-2D.
As its name suggests, GINO-2D provides graphical input and output in two dimensions. Like GINO-F, it is mainly written in ANSI standard FORTRAN, and, as the machinedependent routines are almost identical, it will be available on any computer system that currently can run GINO-F (e.g. CDC, DEC, GEC, Honeywell, IBM, ICL, Prime, Univac etc.).
On the device-dependent side, there are now several generalized 'back-ends' available: for the Tektronix family, for refreshed displays running under CADC/CETEC Protocol A and for drum plotters. The interface between the front and back end is well defined, and so the addition of a back end for a new device is straightforward.
The GINO-2D user interface is a strict subset of the GINO-F user interface, so that the system is upwardscompatible. GINO-2D works in only two dimensions, which means some routines are both smaller and faster than the equivalent GINO-F routines. This is noticeable, for example, in transformation routines where matrix multiplication is involved.
