-Determination of thermodynamic data on the formation of Bi,O, was established by emf measurements as a function of temperature in the range MO-820°C on the system Metal, Bi(l)lBilOl 1 Ft, 0,. From the results using a tungsten electrode the following relation w18 found : AC" = -(134.7 f 1.2) + (64.0 + 1.2) x 10S3 T kcal mole-' (validity range : 940-1080 K). Standard thermodynamic data at 298 K were calculated. as AGo = -119.2 f 2.1 kcalmole-', AH" = -139.0 f 1.2kcalmole-'.

The behaviour of oxygen and alummium electrodes was studied by means of emf measurements in Na,AlF, melts saturated with oc-AlzO, in the temperature range 1233-1310K. The results indicate that the electrodes are reversible when they are separated by an a-Al,O, diaphragm. However, the alumimum elect
