is preparing to start mass production this spring of electrolytes used in next-generation solid oxide fuel cells. The company has invested about ยฅ300 million (US$3.3 million) at a facility in Kyushu, to boost annual output capacity by 230%, according to a Nikkei report.
Nippon Shokubai (www.shokubai.co.jp/ eng) will supply the product to fuel cell manufacturers in Japan, the US and Europe. The Osaka-based company is targeting fiscal 2010 sales of ยฅ1.5 billion ($17m) -double the estimate for fiscal 2009.
The report added that one major customer, a US fuel cell venture, will begin mass production in April of fuel cells for use in factories and hospitals.
Japanese firm takes stake in Taiwan fuel cell test station maker
Chino Corporation in Japan has taken a 10% stake in a Taiwanese venture that manufactures test stations for analyzing fuel cells. Chino has invested some T$2 million (US$60 000) in Tension Energy Inc, which is based in Jhubei City.
