✦ Synopsis
The first part of the paper presents some data on the effects of the March 4, 1977 earthquake in Romania. A comparative analysis is performed between the map displaying the damage distribution produced by this earthquake and the map reflecting the seismic intensities of the November 10, 1940 earthquake, pointing out some of the common features of the two seismic phenomena. The area distribution of some secondary effects (i.e., landslides, liquefactions, etc.), induced by seismic vibrations is also presented.
In the second part, the areas susceptible to permanent deformations generated by earthquakes are described and outlined. The map points out areas where potential hazards exist and where further investigation, regulation, microzoning or other measures might be required.
