description the sediments sound as though they were the product of dense sandy turbidity currents. Lockley states that faunas associated with volcanic islands should not be viewed in terms of depositional models developed in shorefact-open shelf areas. Yet the reason he recognizes mixed communities is surely because he has made this comparison in the first place! The final paper by Acenolaza and Toselli is nothing more and nothing less than a catalogue of the type of volcanic rocks and their geographic distribution in Argentina. No detailed synthesis of these rocks is provided.
This book leaves me with very mixed feelings. I cannot wholeheartedly recommend it, yet certain papers including, Fortcy, Brenchley and Newall, LindstrBm, Webby, Brenchley and Cullen, Burrett er al., Beny, and Stillman are central to any serious study of aspects of the Ordovician. These papers could have been published, as they stand, in any international journal, the rest I suspect not, without serious modification. I have not been informed of the price of this book, but as a loose rule of thumb, if it is between €10 and €15 it may as well be bought. but over €15 forget it.
