of radiocarbon dating; sample context is critically important, and all excavators must develop a rigorous set of standards for selecting samples for radiocarbon dating. Cluster dating is not enough, and it is too expensive.

All in all this volume contains a huge amount of information covering a great deal of time, and it offers a ready source of radiometric determinations that are scattered in numerous journals and publications. This type of chronological reporting and synthesis is desperately needed for many other regions throughout the world, and the editors have ably assembled an excellent series of articles.
