β¦ Synopsis
As the mean age of our population increases the practising physician is more frequently faced with the problems of pelvic relaxation and lower urinary tract dysfunction in women. The purpose of this review is to explore the relationships between these two entities. A description of three prominent etiologic factors for both disorders is included, as is the effect of genital prolapse on a woman's ability to initiate and maintain micturition. Finally the association between prolapse and urinary incontinence is reviewed. The intention of this review is to generate interest in further research in these and other aspects of genital prolapse and lower urinary tract dysfunction, so answers can be found to these timely questions.
