β¦ Synopsis
The distribution of vegetative and fruit characters among a large population of parent and F, hybrid tomato cultivars is described and heritability estimates are given . Comparison of parent and offspring subpopulations revealed higher overall values in the F, hybrids for vegetative characters and lower overall values for fruit characters than in the parents . A general Galtonean feature of higher offspring values for cross combinations with low parent means and lower offspring values for cross combinations with high parent mean is evident in all traits studied . The predictive value of the data given is evaluated .

The genetic control of breeding system in a population of grain amaranth is described here by the estimates of outcrossing rate variation among individuals and their response to mass selection. In the first generation (So), a single morphological marker locus (R/r) controlling plant pigmentation was
The UDP-glucuronosyltransferase UGT1 locus is composed of nine exon 1s, each flanked by a unique promoter region, and common exons (2, 3, 4, and the alternatively spliced exons 5a and 5b). Here, we characterized the genetic architecture of the UGT1 gene in a Caucasian sample. Overall, 98 variations
The complete diallel cross among homozygous lines can be a useful tool to analyze the genetic architecture of natural populations. However, it represents the natural population only approximately, in particular if the number of lines is small and the analyzed traits exhibit inbreeding depression or
