β¦ Synopsis
Temperature-sensitive mutants harbouring alterations in ribosomal proteins L28 and L33 have been isolated and used in mapping the genes coding for the two proteins. It was found that they mapped very close to each other and near pyrE at 80.7 min on the E. coli genetic map. The genes affected by the mutations have been concluded to be the structural genes for proteins L28 (rpmB) and L33 (rpmG) by constructing merodiploids heterozygous for pyrE and for the two ribosomal proteins. Various transduction studies with Plkc phages indicate the gcne order in this region to be (rpmB, rpmG)-pyrE-spoT-gItC.

The genes for the ribosomal proteins $9 (rpsI) and L13 (rplM) of Escherichia coli have been cloned into a 2 phage vector termed L47.1. The two genes were identified by infecting UV-light irradiated cells with the resultant phages and analyzing the protein products by two-dimensional gel electrophore
The rplY gene of Escherichia coli K12 encoding ribosomal protein L25 was cloned from the ordered clone bank and located at coordinate 2,291 kb on the physical map of E. coli. Determination of the nucleotide sequence indicated that the coding region contains 285 nucleotide pairs including a translati
A suppressor mutation of a temperature-sensitive mutant of ribosomal protein L24 (rplX19) was mapped close to the lon gene by genetic analysis and was shown to affect protease LA. The degradation and the synthesis rates of individual ribosomal proteins were determined. Proteins L24, L14, L15 and L27
Using mutants of Bacillus subtilis with alterations in the small subunit ribosomal proteins $6 and S16, the corresponding genes were mapped, rpsF was located between purA and cysA, close to the origin of replication. rpsP was located near pyrD, at about 135 degrees on the linkage map. The distributi
